I own a 625 but its meant to use moon clips, and I would like my 686 to be able to use them as well. I mainly use the gun to plink with and would like to be able to have the option of using moon clips. If I have it cut will I always have to use moon clips? If I don't use a moon clip will I get light primer strikes? ya'll seem to know a lot of this stuff so I thought I'de throw it out there.

And no.

When the cylinder is cut for moonclips, enough of a shoulder remains that rimmed cartridges will headspace correctly.

If you get your 686 cut to use moonclips, you can shoot with and without moonclips with no problems. Here are a couple of reliable gunsmiths who do this:

TKCustoms

Pinnacle Guns
