At what revision did the 640 start coming with a lock?
I want to trade my 649-5 for a 640, and want it to be no lock.
I just like the lines of the 640 better

I think the 640-2 had the lock. The one I had was a 640-1, it was in .357, and had the forged internals and no lock. Foolishly sold it.

The others are more 640 knowledgeable than I but I believe your only option for a prelock/pre MIM will be a "no dash."

I think when I was looking into one of these I found the -1 to be at least MIM, and the later models to have the lock.

Good luck. They are just another great piece I missed out on when they came out.

Early 640-1's (like mine) have forged parts, later have MIM. I am 99% sure the 640-2 was no lock, not sure on forged/MIM though. Any I have seen pictured here on the forum were no-lock, but they are fairly rare.
