I don't have a M620 but i did have a M619 which is the fixed sight model of the M620. That revolver is very accurate and comfortable to shoot. I should have never sold it!!

Does it feel like a 65 or more like a 686?
I really like the balance of the old K-frames...

Ive got a 620 that I've had for around five months. It is my first S&W, and I really love it, except for the grips (the 620 grips do not cover the backstrap). The 619 grips do cover the backstrap, so I ordered a set of them from S&W to ease the recoil on my thumb web a bit. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to shoot the gun with the new grips yet, so I can't tell how the new grips work.

I actually have TWO of the 620's...the one I've had about a year, year and a half is my "Walk The Dog" gun...it rides in a cheap Fobus paddle holster...easy on, easy off for the "Dog Walking" chore, it is loaded with Remington "Golden Saber" Maggies. It shoots as well as any other four-inch L-frame I have, esp. after a lil' "Kitchen Table Action Work!" The other 620 is still "NIB" in the safe...it'll get fired one of these days...Also have an unfired 520--same gun, but blued and with the Ti cylinder--that I may put a "Red Dot" sight on for "Steel Challenge"-type matches...FWIW....mikey357

It feels more like the K frame than a M686 but is still heavier than a K frame. I like the balance due to the lighter barrel and that's what makes it feel somewhat like a K frame.
jmorrell,
If you got the stock Uncle Mike's grips that are on the M619 for your M620 you won't be disappointed. I found those grips to be very comfortable and very easy to shoot with even with full house .357 Magnum rounds. I'm almost sure they are Uncle Mike's Round Square Conversion grips, #226620000
DAM, I really shouldn't have sold that revolver!!

I'm one of those out there. The way I've seen the M620 hammered on this forum I'm reluctant to admit it. This gun has three things that a lot of people bash (MIM parts, internal lock, and two piece barrel). Well so far I like mine. I'm not biased on the three above mentioned items so I'm just using it. The gun seems to fit my hand well and I like the balance. It's a long story but this gun replaced a M19-6 that developed the proverbial cracked forcing cone that shows up every now and then in the M19. I bought the M19-6 slightly used and when the crack appeared S&W replaced the gun with this M620 free of charge. As for a replacement I think they did a fine job and for my use it serves me well. It is my hiking/woods packing gun. A few months earlier I purchased a new Ruger GP100 with the 6" barrel in stainless steel. Both guns have their good and some bad points.
Fit and finish--The M620 wins hands down. It came out of the box perfect from my limited experience. No nicks scratches or tool marks. The bore on the M620 has a mirror finish compaired to the GP100. The GP100 came out of the box with several nicks and scratches. The hammer on the GP100 was so rough and sharp it would take your skin off with very litle use. The trigger had sharp edges as well. I fixed that with a small file.
Function--They both function fine. The triggers on both are smoothe when used in SA. In DA the M620 I think is better but I rarely use DA anyway. The timing, alignment, and lock up on both seem to be fine.
Durability--The GP100 is built like a tank and that is one of the reasons I bought it. I reload and like to experiment with different loads and bullets and this is the gun I use for that. I have no concern of ever damaging this gun with a hot load. I'm very careful with my reloading and stay well within the safety zone. I think if both guns were put through a torchure test and fired continually until they failed the M620 would lose but for my use both guns will probably be passed on in good condition to my son someday after I'm no longer able to use them. I'm 53 now so I hope that's a long time out.
After admitting I have a M620 and like it I feel like I'm one of those people who are coming out of the closet.

I feel the same way: as long as the gun fits my needs, I don't worry about MIM parts, internal locks and two piece barrels. If any of the three fail (which could take YEARS the way I shoot), then I'll consider something else. Until that time, I'm happy to have the 620.

Thanks! If I can't find a clean 65 4" the 619 will be what I get instead.

If you want to look at the M619 on the S&W site it's there but hiding. You have to click on "Firearms", then "Law Enforcement, Military and Government", then "LE Revolvers" and finally "LE Revolver Duty Carry". It's in there along with a 3" M64 that's not in the other revolver section.

I just received my M620 back from the shop.
Bead Blast, very nice tune job, and a bit of filing work done. It was good new but Im one of those guys that can't leave well enough alone...
Like the gun and love the feel. Heavy enough to to tame magnum loads but not a full underlug cannon. A good balance. Yeap its MIM, yeap its got a lock, and yeap its a 2 piece barrel. The caveat to all those conns...I LIKE IT.
Not to turn this thread into a war but...
"Those plastic guns are mass produced **** and will never stand up to constant abuse of daily shooting" <------ early day comments about GLOCK pistols. Get what feels and shoots good. end of story

...Well here is some Mud in my eye and I must take this statement back. As soon as the wife gets back I will try to get pictures popsted but. My 2 piece barrel/shroud/lug came apart today. See my post http://smith-wessonforum.com/eve/for...4/m/6581095623. This is not what I expect from S/W especially since it was a custom job from Performance Center.
