I had picked up a model 27-3, 4" in 95% condition because it was "cool" and I got it in a package with a new 27-2 6" nickel, The package I believe was 900 for the pair, I havent shot the 6" yet since it is like new,,,, But the 4" has got some use over the past year, I bought them before I know what I know now, Anyway, I realize that the 3 1/2" barrel 27s are the Premium $ 27,
But I have heard that the 4" is the rare barrel size.
Is it true, and there fore do they have a premium?
I haven seen many 4"ers for sale on GB.
Tell me about the 4" 27s.
Thank you!
Peter.

I can't give you the specifics off the top of my head, but 4" 27-2s are "rare" because they were made for fewer years than other barrel lengths.

Yep, the 4" 27-2 was only made from about 1979-1981. 3.5"ers, while all the rage, were made from the 1930s all the way to about 1979.

Not sure the 4" barrels are particularly "rare", but the pendulum has swung from when 6" and longer barrels were all the rage to where folks with 4" specimens hang onto them or get more for them when they sell.

Those of us who shoot quite a bit (well, the folks I know) don't find a lot of extra benefit from a longer barrel and find the 4" examples a lot handier to pack.

I wish women thought 1/2" meant as much as we do.

As he said, the Dash-2 4" is "rare". In other words, a pinned and recessed 4".
They dropped the 3-1/2 and the 5", and produced the 4" to cover both. Same basic barrel blank that they already had for the 28.
In the future, when people start listening to me, look for the P&R 4" in mint state to be the hardest to find, and bring big bucks.

I got lucky earlier this year, and found this Nickel -2 ,Counterbored but not pinned.

I like because it reminds me of a Highway Patrolman who's put on his best suit to go out on the town, hoping to get lucky !

N941xxx ser. , fit and finish is superb.

The -3 may even be scarcer?

Why -3 mabey even scarcer? I havent seen enough to see what is out there.. Just not enough 4"ers to get a proper idea,
How many - changes did the 27 go through, ANd what was available in the -3s?
Peter.

Since I bought the two 27s at the same shop, I want more but havent seen another in person at a show or shop.

Allen,
Neat gun, scarce variant.
Get a rear sight for it while you can.

Lee,

I screwed up big time by passing on a 4" nickel 27-2 in excellent condition that was in a shop for a very long time. I looked at it several times and was going to buy it and didn't. It was on consignment for $550 and I could have had it for $500. I still kick myself for that one.

I bought a new 27-2 4" blue in blue box with target stocks in 1979. Traded it off somewhere along the way - think I thought I needed a new hunting rifle or some such foolishness.

I have 3 Nickel 4" Model 27-2's. I think the blue 4" is the hardest to find. I have been looking for one in decent shape for years. Chop

I got mine. The 27-2 4" in blue, excellent plus condition, Target everything: for $550...But that was with about $75 worth of Xtras. Then I found out it was a rarer model.I missed a deal on the 6", and kicked myself every day, until I found this one. Looks great with my 4" 29-2 & 4" 28-2. The 4" N'ies look & balance great. I don't know how many 27-2's were made in the 4" length, but they are very attractive revolvers.I have the 3 1/2 in Nickel, and an 8 3/8 27-2 also, but the 4's are sweet.
