I know some brands of brass works better with some brands of moon clips.
So, in your experience, what brand(s) of .38/.357 brass works best with the Ranch Products moon clips for the 8 shot 627?

Winchester brass was the only brand that gave problems in my 627. Dimensional differences of the "extractor groove" made them almost impossible to load/remove from the moons. Rem, Fed, CCI, Starline, all functioned much easier.

Winchester has the narrowest and shallowest relief. Federal, Remington and American Eagle seem to have the best groove for my 8-shot moons.

The best brass to use with 8 shot moon clips are as follows in the order that works best. Starline
Federal
RP which is remington.
None of the rest work very well, any how not as good as those I mentioned. I like to buy my moon clips for my 8 shooter from als custom.

I have used Federal, Remington, Winchester, and most others without any problems. The Starline 357 cases are too loose in the moonclips for my taste.

Starline then Federal are the best way to go. Federal brass is hard to come by in the 38 special, guess everyone wants it because it is cheap.

With most moon clips including Ranch I have found that with a few loadings the sharp points wear some and all make of brass load easier.

Winchester's too tight
Starline's too loose
Federal's OK
But Remington's just right
