I would like to buy a good reference book focusing primarily on post WWII revolvers. I like to buy used Smith revolvers and hate to keep posting "DOB" questions here. Also, I would like to get a better understanding of factory stocks, and which are appropriate for which model revolver.

What book or books should I get, and where should I order it (them) from?

Thanks for any help you can give.

p.s. I apologize if this is not the proper section to post this question.

The Smith & Wesson Standard Catalogue is a must for anyone who's serious about Smith & Wesson revolvers. It has a wealth of information on all of Smith's products from the very beginning of the company up 'til the present day. List price is about $35. You can buy it directly from Smith, on line. It's also available on Amazon and I've seen copies for sale in Barnes & Noble.

Thank you, gentlemen. I just ordered the Standard Catalog from S&W. Also tried to order some strain screws for a square butt 686-4. Was told that S&W no longer stocks them. Was referred to Brownell's, but I attempted to order from Brownell's yesterday and was told they (Brownell's) no longer carried that item. Anyone know where one can get strain screws for a square butt 686?
