Where would I look for a 4 inch barrel for a 624? Mine has a 6 inch barrel on it, and rather than cut the existing barrel, I'd like to just swap out the barrel, and sell the one on it. I'd prefer to stick with the same profile on the barrel also.

4-inch 624's are pretty common. There are two on GB right now. I'd just sell the 6-inch and buy a 4-inch. Cheaper in the long run.

Had we not already rounded the frame, I'd likely just trade it for a 4" model. And keeping this one as is, and buying a 4" would be grounds for me sleeping on the couch for a very long time.

I'm curious, and I think I know the answer. A 629 barrel won't work due to the gap between the forcing come and the cylinder, will it?

You can make it work by turning down the shoulder on the barrel and continuing the treads up the newly-reduced area, so the barrel can screw further into the frame.

You don't even need to try to continue the threads up to the new shoulder. Loss of two or three threads won't reduce the joint strength at all. Besides, where are you gonna get a factory S&W barrel thread die to do the threading with? Even a master machinist will tell you it is next to impossible to continue threading from the original threads.
