S & W's Personal Defense (PD), Military & Police (MP) and Night Guard (NG) are all closely related.

I think overall, the Night Guard (NG) series offers the best value, especially for concealed carry. Next is the Military & Police (MP) line, although I only like the 340CT and PC-325 Thunder Ranch.

I find the NG series more "pointable" due to the higher profile XS/C&S XD sights. Finish is more durable than M&P's.

The 325 Thunder Ranch is a real deal. It's a $2000+ revolver if you had to start with a base revolver and have it customized.

Forum member ENH has some nice customized revolvers in these series. He has photos posted in several threads.

Shooting *,

I thought I would like the Night Guard series when they were introduced at Shot Show. It took forever to get to my area, and I waited a while to get the one I wanted first ... the 386NG. I picked it up last week for a great deal and I believe I love this one far more than I thought. Very easy shooting .38 Spl +P and the .357 Mag Speer Short Barrel is magnificent. I now am looking to pick up a 396NG as well as a 315NG. For CCW these are outstanding.

Just my opinion ... but I really think they are fantastic.

In my opinion, revolvers this big (NG series) require holsters and are not true pocket pistols, and for my purposes, if I need a holster, I prefer a longer barrel, something at least long enough to get full length ejection, especially since these are "combat" revolvers. They should have made them with at least 3 or preferably 4 inch barrels. A longer barrel can still be easily concealed in an IWB holster, and it shoots much better.
