It really depends on how you set them up. You should test at different distances once you have them set up.

I have CT grips on three handguns, S&W 637 Airweight (the first to get them), 686+ and Browning Hi Power. Outdoors in the noonday sun, Crimson Trace grips are not much help (though simply as grips they are excellent). Indoors or night is where they shine. I've never tried mine at fifty yards, but the red dot is just fine at twenty-five at my indoor range. I would not buy a handgun that Crimson Trace did not make a set of grips for. Since my handguns are for HD/SD, I have them set for POA/POI at ten yards. I do not visualize a self defense -- much less a home defense --situation requiring me to fire at targets fifty yards away. That would have "bad shoot" written all over it!

I own 7 sets of CT laser grips as far defense set ups go I set them up for 30' I also use them for my wife because they are the only grips that she likes on my revolvers. other grips are just too big for her. So I have 5 pair for revolvers and 1 for LCP and 1 for Keltec PF9. She has them on m-63 and 242 as well as several of my L frames.

Still waiting to find a good deal on a set of LG-305s for my J-frame. If and when I find them, they will be set up for 50'. I reckon that they will hit within an inch of that POI from 0-50'

Of course, different ammo will have a different POI.

I love my 642 w/ ct. It has taught me more about how I shoot b/c of the light shaking or the fact that when i squeeze the trigger the light jumps 2inches(on target) to the right. That's enough to miss. Great teaching tool. The manual says adjust it to 50 ft, but for me 20ft seems more appropriate.

On another forum it was noted that your gun's POI vs. POA when shooting at 25 yds. can be off by about 8" vertically. This is assuming you zero your gun in pretty close, e.g. ~7 yds. That's not acceptable to me. [Caveat: I can not verify these claims].

The factory chose zero at 50', apparently for a reason. Other posters on that thread insist to zero in at 25 yds. and that way you will not be off more than an inch or two from a few feet away out to 25 yds, and beyond, to about 35 yards.

And yet another alternative is not to correct for parallax by sighting the beam parallel to the bore at all times-this way you're only off an inch or so high and maybe a half-inch to the left.

I'm getting my CT's in a couple of days from Midway, and think that I'll zero them in to 50' as recommended and apparently preset by the factory. It may be a PITA for me to try to see and zero the target clearly enough at 25 yds, so 17 or 18 yards (~50') should do, unless I use a large target.

If you can see that little dot at fifty feet in daylight, you must have pretty good eyesight. I'm still 20/20 at age 65 and it takes a lot of concentration for me to find the laser pointer in daylight conditions, especially against a dark background.
