I just closed a deal for a 629-5 V-comp. From what I gather these were a limited run for RSR/Lew Horton.

Anyone have one? What do you think?

It has a compensator and a non-compensator barrel weight/cap, flash chrome trigger with trigger stop adjustment, RR front and non-WO rear sights. There are two sets of grips, one Hogue and the other combats. There is also NOT LOCK!

I'm looking forward to taking it out.

I have one..its a great gun. super accurate and I love the way it looks. I dont know the history of it...and dont really care. I bought it for hunting and target shooting and its certainly not a safe queen.

I got one less than a year ago. It has become my favorite revolver.

I'm learning how to use the moondclips as I've never been a fan of them before.

It's great for speed steel and ICORE. I haven't used it in other matches yet....

If I said any more about it, it would sound like a [Rant ON] mode.

I had a special leather holster custom built for competition because I didn't like any of the plastic modular units.

Now I KNOW the advantages of "V-8"!!!

5", 629-5, no lock. I don't have the gun in my possession yet which accounts for the absence of pictures.

As soon as it is in my hands I'll post pix!

I'm not sure of the product code either 170137 or 170148 I believe. If the former, which I think is more likely, the date is 1999. There may have been around 200 made and it was an RSR/Lew Horton run.

There is a number on the crane, 138. It's not the serial number, that begins with RSM02XX.

Very nice looking gun, I need to start saving for one of these! Machtech mentioned there being a 3" version of this gun, I have only ever seen 5" models...sure would be nice to actually see one...hint hint!

Here are a couple of pics of my "extra" 3" 629 V-Comp. I have had this one for sale in the classifieds before but no one snagged it. It is still available if anyone is interested.

I'm quite glad to hear multiple people are happy with these. I watched the compensator blow off our range rental gun during firing on one of these a few weeks ago. Must have just been a bad apple.

I think ours have the lock. I'll look again next time I'm at work.

While traditionalists may not like the styling, I do and I like unfluted cylinders.

I think it is a handsome gun, hope you enjoy it. Don

It's interesting that they made 3", 4" and 5" vrsions of this model, but you just don't see them all that often.

Here's a brochure, interesting read - they flubbed up the descriptions, talking about the 45acp in the text....

I think it looks better w/o the ports.

Can someone explain how the weight/comp attaches to the gun and is changed out?

Thanks.

The is a screw just below the barrel on the comp and weight the screws into the barrel shroud or whatever you want to call it.

I expect the comp that blew off the gun had not been secured or had come loose. If it were loose and moving around a bullet exiting the barrel might have blown it right off. I can't see any other way that could happen.

I'll try to take some pics of the comp.

Thanks SmithNut for the brochure.

That's the same one I saw in a pawn shop the other day.
Only about 200 made? Wow! I am all over it.
This one has the number 439 stamped on the crane.

I'm not sure about the number on the crane or about the limited production. However, that is what I've heard.

The Performance Center lists the 4" 629 vcomp (SKU 170137) as currently being made. They obviously don't make many at a time since I've had one on order since February.

The ones being made currently have the lock although I don't know what the revision number is. This one has a serial number beginning with RSMXXXX so I think it's one of the RSR specials.

Does that say the 629 V-comp is a .45ACP?

I have a 5" 629 vcomp. Lots of 4" out there, but never find much out about the 5" ones. Would like another just like it, but they wanted $2k for only other one I've seen.
