Default Rear Night sight for a 329NG?

I own a 329NG that I absolutely love...only the sight setup to me is a bit silly. The front tritium night sight paired with the C&S rear sight seems like an half-a---d job. Anybody know of any manufacturer of tritium rear sights that would screw right onto the top strap in the same manner as the C&S?

I kind of feel the same way, but I have learned to shoot instinctively with just the front sight. With practice, my rear sight lines up naturally, and I can easily hit center mass on a bear size target.

But, I would indeed also welcome a real rear night sight!

3 tritium dots seem to be waning in popularity. Wilson Combat recently introduced a wide notch rear with no tritium, and it's very popular. Other high end 1911 makers are using gold bead front sights, again, no tritium or marks on the rear sight.

I read an article where a study with the NYPD showed that most officers didn't even use their sights during a gunfight; point and shoot seems to be pretty common. I am doubtful many 3 dot lineups have happened in self defense scenerios. I also remember reading a well-known handgun instructor half-jokingly said if you really want to prepare for self-defense shooting, use squirt guns and shoot from the hip. Having a big front dot to put on your target is quick, easy and probably more practical.

Have a friend who is a LEO, and they are getting trained in instinctive shooting from the hip. Nice skill to develop, but I would always want to use sights if I have the opportunity.

As for the NG sights, I sure don't want the liability of just shooting in the dark at something without lighting it up first! With a Surefire light in my offhand, no problem seeing the rear sights of the NG even with just light scater. Maybe this makes rear sight illunination redundant?

You fellows are probably right. In a life or death type situation, I seriously, seriously doubt I'll be taking the time to line up the sights. It's more of a "complete the package" thing. It just looks wrong!
