Just received the long awaited 5 inch M686 project gun back from S&W. Now I'm thinking a 6 inch RB might be needed....

What a great package! I really like the looks of the Patridge sights on those L frames. I can't quite tell from the pics, but is the 5" gun the only one with the "Plus" Spegels on it?

Thanks,

Jerry

Jerry,
Yes, the 5" gun had the Boot Plus grips, they are extended below the gripframe ~1/4" - 3/8", where the regular Boot grips on the 3" and 4" CS-3 guns above are flush with the gripframe.

Nice collection of my all-time fav.

After the 6", how about a snubby, as well?

Besides the snub and 6 inch you will need a 7 and 8 3/8 inch for a complete set. Very nice 686, and the family.

John,
Good suggestions, I've thought of adding a 7" and 8 3/8" to the team in the future. I don't know much about the 7" variation, it would be important to me to know what engineering change it is, and whether or not it's a 6 shot or 7 shot version. I'm trying to stay at the -4 level for any additions, as well as stay with the 6 shot versions.
Not a fan of the 2 1/2" version either, just don't like the short extractor rod but who knows....?

Lobo,
The gun was originally a standard M686-4 with 4 inch barrel. I had them install the 5 inch barrel (barrel from the stocking dealer special, see data sheet below), remove the fiber optic and install the Patridge, and bead blast the whole gun. I wanted it to look like the CS-1/3 models (like the 3" and 4" CS-3's in the pic above).

V-G - nice offer, that old ratty brochure above isn't in the best shape, frankly, but if you want it for $250 I'll send it along.
