I prefer S&W's smooth stocks for both for ease of shooting and for appearance, but I had never seen a pair of post-1982 square butt N Frame smooth stocks with the speedloader cutout until I bought these for my 657 .41 Magnum:

The dual cutouts were for a Commemorative (or some special edition) gun.
Doc44 had a late offering at one time with similar stocks
Oh and by the way - BEAUTIFUL!

Nice gun and grips.
Where did you get the holster? Does it have a front sight guide groove? Is it a custom carved Safariland Model 29?

Muley Gil:
It is an El Paso Saddlery holster. I think it is called a number 2 style.
Actually, the stocks which were on the revolver when I bought it are somewhat unusual as well. Cutouts on both sides and checkered:

I might be wrong, but the smooth set looks like some I saw on one of the 544 5" N frame 44-40's. That could explain the dual cutouts.

Nice looking gun and leather. I've always called those stock presentation stocks. The cut out on the right side allows more space for graphics. All of the commemoratives and special products I have wearing targets have the cut on both sides.

Cut-outs on both sides also permit either-hand shooting by those of us with large thumb joints that prevent a comfortable grip on unrelieved stocks.

The first thing other than an engraved gun I saw or owned with the cutout on the right side is/was the Model 19-3 Texas Ranger. Which by the way predates the speedloader cut out so the left side simply has the football relief and NOT the full cut out.
The is a seller on e- that seems to have found a whole bunch of smooth "N" frame Target grips from some special edition as they have the cut outs on both sides.
P35: I would suspect that even the checkered ones that came on the gun were replacements for the originals.
