Default Had to pass up a Model 19

I stopped at a pawn shop yesterday on the way home from work. I wasn't looking for anything in particular. I saw a K frame in the showcase and lo and behold there is a cherry, and I mean cherry, nickle 4" square butt Model 19. I looked at it and it is like new. Never carried, almost never shot. Gleaming.
I asked him how much out the door. He said $350. I was in agony then. I am just too tight. I thought about it all day today and reached for the phone a couple times and then fought off the urge.
When I got home today the money from a gun I sold had come in the mail. Catch up a bill, which is why I sold the other gun, or call the shop? Damn I hate being responsible. The 19 had a target hammer and trigger anyway which I don't like. I would have never quite really liked it all the way anyway. Yeah that's it.

I suspect you're going to provoke a lot of posts from people who will tell you that you should have bought the gun. $350 is well below what that would command in most markets, assuming the condition is as you say it is. Very few would be deterred by a target hammer/trigger.

I would have been on that like white on rice even if I had to eat macaroni and cheese the rest of the month.

No S--T, that's a $600-$650 revolver out here if you can even find one!

Alright. I went back over there and gave him $50 to hold it until payday next week. I need that gun like a hole in the head. I do just happen to have some old two piece rosewood Hogues that will look good on it though.
It isn't P&R but is in new condition. It has factory targets on it that showed a little wear not consistent with the rest of the gun. He fessed up to the fact the gun came in with stags on it. He showed them to me. They were well matched thick slabs with a lot of bark. He isn't coming off them. I swear they weighed three pounds they are so dense.
I still don't like the target trigger as I am a double action shooter, but it isn't that bad I guess.

Congratulations TNDave, you made the right decision. If it makes you feel any better, I bought a model 10 earlier this week that I really didn't need. I choose to look at it as more of a financial decision. I could be like my friends and spend my money on booze and loose women, or invest in s+w revolvers and ammo. I choose the latter. Enjoy your new piece.

If you decide you don't want it you can always sell it for more than you gave for it. Nice catch. When you get it we want pics.

WOW. It's been a long while since Hogue made two piece grips! They still fit better than ANY of the one piece I ever had. Wish I had bought more of them.
