Here's my 640 heavy .38 with CT grips. Someday I'd like to pick up one in .357 magnum.

Default Two for now...

A "for now" 686-5 Plus 7 shooter and a 627PC UDR with factory fluted cylinder (thanks exfebee ). Sorry bout the pic quality, I can shoot the guns...but not "shoot" the guns. I said "for now" on the 686-5 as that one was sold here last week but...there is another one coming to me soon...a 686-4 Plus 7 shooter. Ain't life grand!!!!!

Okay, if we can play that way, then here is my only snubby, also a Ruger SP101, and also a regular carry gun. Shown here with my 586 recently returned from a S&W factory reblue.

Here is my only snubbie.

I seldom leave the house without it. So handy, so light and so reassuring. the +P 135gr Gold Dot loads will tcb if needed.

I've got a PC snubbie in the works at the moment, too. It'll be my "walking the dog" gun. No more bothersome coyotes 'n such.

I have never seen a 586 without a full underlug.

Yeah, I should have said this when I posted the picture. The previous owner cut down the lug. I bought it because my 686 felt a bit barrel heavy. This one feels just right in my hand. I finally got the extra $ to send it back to S&W in February for a reblue. Vito tried to talk me out of it, and into replacing the barrel. I told him why I liked it, and I could hear him shrugging his shoulders as he said, "Okay, it's your gun."

When he called me earlier this month to say it was ready to be shipped back home, he said he was really impressed with the work done on it. He said, "It looks like a brand new model 19!" Needless to say I am quite pleased. It is gorgeous, and is tighter now than it has been in the six years I have owned it.

ETA: And thanks for the kind words C/O, I love it too!

Okay, I GOTTA ask, particularly since the explanation about "cutting down the lug".

Are you sure the previous owner did that, or did he/they fit a Mod 19/66 barrel to the L frame? I am asking because I like the way it looks, but, the section protecting the ejector rod looks exactly like the profile from earlier Mod 19's with the slanted front area.

What's the scoop?

Nice either way but I've always wondered if fitting the K to L was possible, and if so...how would it look.

Inquiring minds want to know.

Yep, previous owner did the mod. I've got his pictures to prove it, and can direct you to them on thehighroad.org (he is a moderator of the revolver forum). When S&W did the reblue, they also did some fine-tuning to the cut down. The cut was decent before, but it came back looking factory fresh. The craftsmen in Springfield still have some magic in their fingers!

I hate to be drifting this thread. Maybe we ought to discuss this elsewhere. Here is a thread I just began with before and after pictures:

586 lug cut down

Default A Couple Favorites

Here are a couple of favorites. First, a Jack Wigand modified 442 with 2.5” ported barrel, action re-work, Spegel Boot grips and Trigicon front sight. This modification has been discussed in these forums in the past so won’t be elaborated here. An added twist to mine is that the cylinder stop has been polished and the cylinder done with a very slippery Robar coating. You will notice the absence of a drag line on the cylinder. Very sweet and smooth shooter and rides nicely in a Milt Sparks IWB holster.
The second is an early snubbie, a Model of 1905 4th change that is in pristine condition. This one is not holstered or shot, just admired. The black rubber grips are perfect too.

It the price I couldn't pass. 642-2 with 2.5" barrel.
I have a '72 vintage model 37 that I decided was too nice to carry.
I love the 2.5" barrel and it groups POA. About 15 rounds of 158 gr. +Ps are all my poor old hand can take at one time. We'll see what wears out first. Me or the gun.

I think my favorite snubbies are the Centennials!

However, in cold weather, under more voluminous clothing, it would be hard to beat any of these Combat Magnums!

Yep, you saw those forum members with a problem. The one gentleman with the 21 or so Smith model 49 Bodyguards, and the other gentleman with the 20 to 30 plus Smith model 66 and 19 snubbies. They definitely exhibit the SAME PROBLEM.

NEITHER OF THEM OWN ENOUGH OF THEIR RESPECTIVE SNUBBIES!

And in my book, that's a problem.

PS: You two are my HEROES ;-)
