Default Spring loaded crane screw - help

I just bought this model 65 and it is the only smith I have that has the spring loaded crane screw. I can't even get this screw close to getting it snugged up and the cylinder gets real stiff to open and close. Is there a way of fixing this so the screw can at least snug up and the cylinder swing open easier??? I though I would ask first before I start working on it.

Thanks, in advance, John

Obvious question, but... is the yoke made for that type of screw. (i.e., did you check?) Someone may have switched yokes.

Maybe the screws are in the wrong positions. Take out all of the screws and check their lengths. THere should be one short and 2 exactly the same length. If one is longer put the middle one in the place of the crane.

The Newer Spring Loader "End Shake Screw" is Larger in diameter than the older type were the screw was fit to the yolk.. No Chance of getting that one mixed up with the others.
I wonder if someone put a spring & plunger in that one??
Sounds like something isn't right..
Got any Pics??
