Just took this photo today; my old LAPD DAO 3" off-duty gun and a 5" 10-5. My two favorites for weekly practice.

Another 3-inch fan here.
Only a few here, but they're among my favorites.

This is an "old but good" thread. Looking through it, there are some really nice examples of the 3" genre.

Frankly, I have never been a real fan of barrels that short (I consider the
4" barrel to be a "proper" shorty LOL). However, when the 3" target sighted Chief Special hit the market, I lusted after one. At the next large gun show in Indy, I found the 60-4 was available and picked it up. I was not expecting terrific performance but discovered I could shoot this baby pretty dern good. Scoring in the high nineties on the Timed fire target at 25 yards was commonplace. It really opened my eyes to the possibility of these little shorties.

It soon became a frequent companion on my woods walks and I took a number of cottontails, snowshoe rabbits, and grouse. It was the perfect sidekick to my birdgun. You hardly knew it was there until you needed it (all sitting rabbits and grouse as well as the occasional wounded grouse). I stuffed it full of solid wadcutters (home cast, of course) and was "good to go".

When the Kimber CDP-II came my way with the 3" barrel, I grabbed it. My first trip to the range, I fired 10 shots at the timed fire target at 25 yards and the worst shot was a nine (more than one, you understand but half or more were tens). My shooting buddies and I both were amazed. So, an old fart had to admit that these had real utility value along with their compactness. Who said old dogs cannot learn new tricks:

My favorite short guns remain those with 4" barrels, but...

Following SmithNut's collection seems pointless - but what the heck!

Then there is my oldest 3"-er... my 10.5 yr old 696-1, shown with the 63 above.
