Default 629-3 at local gun shop?

The local gun shop has a 629-3 for sale with four-inch barrel. It was made in 1991, according to the serial number (BJH prefix). Condition is excellent, including finish, timing, and screw slots. Very, very slight endshake in the cylinder. It has the old chromed and forged hammer and trigger, which are appealing. No box, no papers. Aftermarket grip. The best the shop is willing to do is $619. Two questions:

This gun is tempting. How does the price sound in the current market?

What kind of stocks would this 629-3 have had originally? I'm thinking checkered Goncalo Alves target stocks, but please correct me if this is wrong.

TIA.

A standard 629-3 (not a Classic, etc.) came with GA wood grips. The Hogue tupperwares were introduced on the 629-4. $619 is a decent price, don't lose the gun because you become cheap over that extra $25-35!

The old style revolvers without the new internal lock and with the firing pin on the hammer are in greater demand. The four inch barrel is also more appealing.

You can always try to get the price down more. It also depends on how long the shop has had the 629.

Good Luck!
