Default Help me reason this out please.

I am looking to replace the front sight blade on a model 60 3" with adjustable rear sight. I am wanting to put an XS tritium night sight on the front. The blade is shorter than the original blade.

A shorter front blade would raise the point of impact, correct?

So to compensate, I would lower the rear sight, correct?

In case there is not enough adjustment, I could dial it in with bullet weight

A ligher bullet would have higher point of impact and a heavier bullet would have lower point of impact, correct?

Thanks for your help.

A slower and heavier bullet would have a higher point of impact because of barrel time.

I would change the front sight height and rear sight blade height so I would get the gun within normal rear sight adjustment range.

OK, so I have it backwards on effect of bullet weight. I am unaware of a rear blade height option.

If you are using standard S&W rear sights, you can change the "blade". Lowering the rear sight all the way, shoot a group with your preferred ammo at 25 yards. Measure the distance from point of aim to point of impact. Call S&W and ask for Tech Support, and they can tell you which height blade to install in the rear sight. Order the kit and install. (Just be sure to capture the teeny detente and spring when you back the windage screw all the say out to remove it.

To keep the tiny detent ball and spring from getting away during disassembly of the rear sight, place the gun in a gallon size plastic bag. Insert both hands and proceed to remove the windage screw, the detent ball will be captured inside the bag instead of flying off into the furthest dark corner of the room.

If you do let it get away from you, a decent sized magnet, and crawling around on your hands & knee's in your shop "may" help you find it. Don't ask how I know.

P.S. They are easily available from S&W.
