Trade Colt for Smith?
Here is my dilemma: I've got my eye on a pretty nice S&W 610 with 4 inch barrel. Price is $799.95 with box and papers. I haven't looked at it real close yet but may do so sometime this weekend. Condition will be checked closely but, for now, we'll assume it's excellent with the normal goofy hole on the left side. Probably some room for negotiation here. The main reason I'm interested in this revolver is that I have a supply of ammo and nothing currently to shoot it in. An outright purchase is not an option today and the only thing I have to part with is a Colt Pocket Nine. The Colt is in perfect working order with some small marks from being carried. It has box and papers, two magazines and a custom made ISP holster and mag carrier by Milt Sparks. Realistically the retail value of these two weapons should be pretty close with a slight favor going to the Colt. I don't care for the Colt and it has sat in my safe since I bought a 340 M&P. I have a good supply of 9 MM ammo but, with two Baretta 92's, that's a non issue. Keeping the Colt as a spare seems unnecessary because I have a 640 which can fill that role if needed. The worst of it is that the Colt has been out of production for many years and the Smith is still being made. Once the Colt is gone it's gone forever. Choose wisely.
What say you all?

If the 610 didn't have the hole, this would be a no-brainer. Personally, I think I'd keep the Colt and wait for a 610 to come along without the hole. Otherwise, wait for a Colt Delta Elite in 10mm and go for it.

The 610 has been on top of my grail list for many moons. I'd dump that Colt so quick it'd make your head spin! Good God man, get off of your duff and make that trade before the other guy stops sniffin' glue and realizes what a fool he's going to be!
Regards,
Dave

You'll be sorry once one comes along without the lock.

The pocket nine is a neat gun, And I was looking at one a few months back, NIB with all papers ect for 600.. I didnt buy it for some reason,
I looked for the availability of parts, Not too easy,,,,
I would try and keep the 9 as fodder in the future and wait for a no lock gun.
Tough choice!

Thanks to all for your ideas.............. Think I'll hold out for one without the lock after all.

Good call Snowbandit! You'll be glad you did even if it will cost you a bit extra, it will be worth it!

The 610 is one of my favorites. I shoot 40 S&W mostly.
I got this gun to shoot, and I didn't care if it had the hole or not.
Mine has the dreaded hole, and I couldn't be happier with it.
This gun is accurate as all get out, and has never failed to fire (yet) :-)
I would love to have one without the MIM and IL, but I didn't want to
spend a couple hundred more for a shooter.
Maybe someday I'll get lucky and find a real nice one to keep and look at.
Here's mine.
