Default confused and tempted

So, I have a 2.5" 686-4 7 shot. I am temted to trade the gun for a model 544,25-5 or 29 with 6" barrel. I feel so tempted to trade or sell the 686 to get one of these revolvers. Am I crazy???? what would you do in my situation??

I think you would enjoy any and all of the models you mention, but I also think you would miss the 686...
What makes me think you might be crazy is that you think you can only have one or the other...
Are you nuts???

Default Back up and punt

Seriously...If you like the gun keep it and save the money for your new desire, if you dont...trade it off.

I have been down the road of desire with no money and have traded several good guns off for the "girl of the week" only to regret the guns I traded years later. Even to this day I get the hots for something I dont think I can live without, but for the most part I have learned to back up and wait. If the want doesnt subside in 2 or 3 days...I trade. If it does subside, I go on to my next obsession. It truly is a sickness. Just today I had the hots just to acquire something...anything, and it was all I could do to refrain.

Is it that you just want a six inch barrel, or that you are tired of the 686? I have two of the 686's, three inch and six inch and love them both.

I'm partial to six inch barrels though, and the looks certainly appeal to me. I've owned several 29's, 629's, 57s', and 657's in six inch, and will most likely own more. Something about a six inch Smith that is just beautiful.

It depends on how you feel about the 686. If you like the gun you will reget getting rid of it. If you really don't care about it, trade away!

I bought a new 625 model of 1989 3" barrel when at a PD store in LA. Saw it, liked it, bought it, even though I did not go there to by it (went there for a 3914-still my primary carry piece today). After several years, I became less enamored with it and thought about selling it. I put off any sale having no one close that wanted it at the time. Over the last 15 years or so, I have come to like short barreled 'N' frames and have acquired several others. As you may have heard, they are somewhat hot right now. Had I sold it, I would have to kick myself directly in the posterior or have someone do it for me. Keep what you have (unless you really hate it) and save for others.....IMO

PJ310 - the 686's seem to come along fairly often. If it were the 3" I would say pick something else to trade. But the snubbie can be replaced, although maybe not with another 7-shot. The three you are looking at would be great shooters also and a nice change of past. I have 4 revolvers that I would try to never sell, but I'm not married to any of the other seven. PEN

If you get rid of that 2 1/2" 686-4 7-shot, you will not likely find another, for less than $700. I know, because I've been looking for one for several months.

-4 686 snubs are not real common, the seven shot is gold. Keep it, save a few bucks a week and buy the others one at a time.

I'd keep it if it were mine. Then again, I keep everything s+w. I'd still keep that one though. I've got a 4" 686+ that's one of my favorites.
