Hammer needed for 64-5
I recently picked up a NY-1 64-5 and would like to return it to a SA/DA as I feel there is little to no need for a bobbed revolver that won't be carried in the pocket. I believe I can do the install myself, as long as they don't require fitting. If anyone has replaced a hammer can you please give me some pointers and where can I buy a spurred hammer? Thanks for the help.

NCH - hammers are easy to install. If you have never done it, read the FAQ's. Member "500 Magnum Nut" has put a lot of valuable info there including sideplate removal and disassembly.
I have done many hammer/trigger changes with success and no fitting needed.
I can't help you with the part but put yourself a wanted ad in the classifieds

Do you want a forged blue hammer or a flash chromed hammer? I have a forged blue one I can let you have.

This can be very helpful...
If you're unsure about swapping out the hammer after reading the FAQ, pick up a DVD of Jerry Miculek's S&W revolver action job. He goes through complete disassembly and reassembly of a S%W revolver; additionally, he discusses how the parts interact as the action functions. You may even be tempted to do your first action job once you see how easy it is to do - I did.

I have watched the video on removing the gun lock and I see no problem in replacing the hammer while I am at it.
Bill, thanks so much for the offer, but I am not sure how a blued hammer would look on a SS gun, what do y'all think? You can email me at [email protected]
Thanks
Kevin

You may have to transfer the sear fron the existing hammer to the new one. I beleive they are hand fit to a gun.Very easy with 1/16" punch.
Easy job.

Yeah I am not really worried about the install it's finding a hammer that is so hard. Are there hammers from other models that would work, or is the model 65 unique? Thanks for all the help.

Just about any standard "K" frame would be a drop in except for the occasional double action sear fitting mentioned.
