The only internal lock revolvers I own are models that S&W never made without locks (scandium lightweights).

I don't trust the lock and choose to remove the flag before I carry the guns.

I do save the flag so that I could re-install it if I sell the gun, but I am curious.......

Has anyone sent in a "de-locked" S&W revolver for warranty work? Did they refuse to work on the gun claiming the warranty was void? Or did they do the needed repair and also install a new flag or lock?

Just trying to get an idea of what their position is in case I ever need to send in a gun.

Just tell em you bought it that way,,,,
They will "fix" it for you and then you will more spare parts.

I would not tell them that you bought it that way. For one reason, it's lying, and as I recently found out when the barrel snapped off of my model 66, there is NO warranty on a used gun so if you say you bought it that way it means that you bought it used and as such has no warranty.

So what did S&W say when the barrel snapped off your Model 66? Tough? Or we'll fix it as x price, or we'll fix it for free?

I expect that they would either refuse to work on it or re-install the lock and then charge you for it. I do not own any new S&W revolvers but if I did, I would never send it back to S&W for any kind of work. I would prefer to pay to have a competent gunsmith do it right the first time. Pinnacle Custom can fix just about any problem, including broken hammer and trigger studs. The only problem I've ever seen that he could (would?) NOT fix was a yoke stem separation, and that happens so infrequently that most shooters don't even know what it is.

I bought a Mountain gun used in 44mag, And I ground down the Nub to delete the lock function, Well before I went to sell it I called Smith and Wesson about ordering the part, So the gun could be fixed,
They simply asked if the the lock worked, I said NO, They said, I will get a shipping tag in the mail and they will repair it and send it back.

I bought the gun about 2 years ago,,, Found a 629-2 in 3" around X-mas, and went to sell the Mountain gun in Jan or Feb of this year, Wanted the lock to function first...
They said ?FLAG? part with nob was a fitted part, And had the shipping slip in about 1 week.
Granted I didnt volunteer the info that I ground it down, And they didnt ask,,, If they did, I would have told them I did it...
ANyway, From now on, I will just remove the part for later use if I decide to sell,
I only have 1 with lock now, A 340SC, And most likely wont be buting any more lock guns.

The conversation started with a line of questioning to see how they could deny service.
Question 1: Were you shooting reloads?
Question 2: Are you the original owner, did you buy the gun used?

After question 2 was answered honestly that I was not the original purchaser I was told that there was no warranty for used guns. They said I could send in in at my expense and purchase the parts and labor.

I said, "so what your telling me is that Smith won't do squat for me on the defect". The answer was "as I said, no warranty on used guns".

So I fixed it myself. The NC DOC had the same problem with some of their guns. It's caused from over tightening the barrel.

My used 340sc was under warranty. I do not know how many people owned it before me. It had a cracked frame and S&W replaced the frame free of charge and they paid shipping both ways. I still own it as it is my carry gun.

Smith paid shipping on my 625-8 even though I bought it slightly used. The gun lock needed work as it caused the thing to lock up. I did however send in the product registration as it never had been sent in by the original owner. I had earlier sent the gun in for action enhancement.The locks may be horse manure,but Smith has been very good to me.
