given the following details, which set of grips would require the shooter to have the larger hands?

Grips:

hogue rubber, one piece.
pachmayr, gripper grips, enclosed backstrap.

Revolver:

S&W K frame, square butt, 4" barrel

Sir, the Pachmayrs increase the trigger reach more than the Hogues, so are better suited to long fingers. The Hogues' finger grooves seem spaced too close together for really big hands and too far apart for medium-sized hands. :-/

I guess I will be the lone voice crying out in the wilderness, "Hogue!"

They feel like they were molded specifically for my hands.

The Pachmayrs just don't feel right to me.

I wear a fairly large glove size. I generally prefer Hogues. Though, if you don't mind paying extra, a set of Badger wood grips or something of that nature (or even factory combats) may be better still.

I like the Hoges the best. They just feel right for me and I have a average sized hand.

vytoland: I've been putting Pach's "Compac Grips" on my heavier recoiling revolvers. They seem to have a spongieness to them that helps absorb recoil. Hogues seem to be a harder grip & narrower in the back, which directs felt recoil much harder to the web of my hand....ouch!

Even though my hand is probably considered small for a man, I can still get my finger on the trigger comfortably with the Compacs.

I use Hogue stocks on several hard recoiling revolvers for extended range sessions and have no complaints.

I have medium size hands and short fingers. Hogue's hit me the best, and I have them on several revolvers, from J frames to N frames.

I put a set of pachmayr grips on my 686. The decelerator model, I have med hands and they feel good.

In have medium hands and have tried both and the hogues have worked the best for me period!
one of me requirements is that i can shoot the gun with one hand and maintain total control and the hogues fit my hand like a glove every time i grab my gun.
I have a 686 6" and so far they are the only ones that give me that feel and control I require.

I have large hands and the base of my shooting thumb will not stand heavy recoil (almost nothing heavier than .38's). Pachmayr Decelerators for the "N" and "L" frames.

Of course, I have Crimson Trace grips on my 642.

Regarding "which", that is best determined what fits YOU and act accordingly.

One thing I have learned - if a feller or gal sports a pair of Hogue or Pachmayr rubber grips on their favorite blaster, you can rest assured that they are a SHOOTER.

It's not so simple. Each uses a different material. I'll call it rubber; not technically correct, but close enough. The Hogue rubber is sticky, while the Pachmayr is not. The Pachmayr grips tend to be larger but will not stick to your hand. I would prefer that Hogue make their Monogrip out of the same material that Pachmayr uses, but since they do not I'll take a Pachmayr because it does not stick to my hand.

When I purchase my 620 I found out very quickly that the Hogue Combat grips that came with the gun was WAY TOO SMALL for shooting full power 357 Magnums. It only took 3 cylinders to start raising some blisters on my shooting hand and it also HURT. After checking in here for grips suggestions I covered by bet by ordering the Hogue Monogrip for the 600 Magnum and a Pachmayr Decelerator for the K/L round to square configuration. Figured if I didn't like the Monogrip I could give the Decelerator a try. I've never bothered to mount the Decelerator grip, the Monogrip works just fine. In terms of size, from a side by side comparison, both have a very similar profile and I suspect would feel quite similar mounted on the gun.

Now, it happens that 3 of my handguns wear Hogue Rubbers and I really like the "tackiness" of the compound they use to construct the grips. I like to have the feeling that the gun is "glued" to my hand and DO NOT like any grip that slips and requires that I re-adjust my grip during a string.

I also have a set of Pachmayr's on my model 67 and they work well on that gun. However, it's a 38 spl. and doesn't have much recoil. If it were a model 66 and I was shooting Magnums with it, I would mount the Pachmayr Decelerator on it or look for a Hogue with a similar profile.

I have both but prefer the Pac's due to the texture. They also seem to fit my hand better...

I have a medium hand but prefer the Pachs. The sticky Houges tend to hinder a draw from concealment more than the Pachs. I love the look of fine blued steel and wood. Most of my present guns are stainless steel and rubber.
