Default S&W 325 NG Chrono Results

I had a chance to chrono a few loads through my S&W 325 NG in 45 ACP.
I have shot this gun about 200 rounds or so and so far it has worked 100%.

It is plenty accurate enough for its purpose, and hits spot on with 230gr ammo.

Remington 230gr Ball 784 fps.

Remington 230 Golden Saber HPJ 770 fps.

Winchester 185 Jacketed Semi Wadcutter Match 740 fps.

Sounds like the companies are going light on powder loads. I'd have expected higher velocities. Don

Looks like 185 gr. +P is the way to go with those snubbies.

Those results are pretty typical. When I took my 325PD to the range I got:
Magtech 230fmj 707fps
R-P 230jhp 767fps
Fed Hydrashok 230 819fps.
I began testing handloads to find something that gave both performance and low recoil. After a lot of trial and error I settled on a 200lswc over 10.7 AA7 with a Fed primer, OAL 1.225. This load, though well below max, gives great accuracy, much lower recoil than factory hardball, and chrono's 944fps in the short gun (1008fps in a 5" barrel). It's become my carry load for all my acp revolvers.

How about these two?

.45 ACP +P Pistol & Handgun Ammunition

http://www.doubletapammo.com/php/cat...x.php?cPath=21

I've fired Buffalo Bore 38+P in my revolvers, and Double Tap 45ACP in my XD. Both companies push calibers pretty hard.

Both use Gold Dot Bullets for their Bonded JHP loads. If the load calls itself a Controlled Expansion JHP, it's a Hornady XTP.

The Double Tap 230gr Bonded JHP is a 1000fps round from 5 inch barrels. Buffalo Bore isn't far below that.

Either way, for SD, I personally prefer heavy bullets.
