Default Scope Mounts for 686

Am considering an older 686 and need to know how difficult it would be to mount a scope rail if the pistol is not drilled and tapped? How long have 686's come already drilled and tapped?

Have a smith drill and tap it. You will be much happier with the results. I tried the pinch the top strap type and the barrel band type and both were bulky and unstable. Then I had it drilled and tapped for about $40 and am very satisfied.

When you have it drilled and tapped, be sure that they use the same pattern that the later Smiths have.

I LOVE my Red Dotted revolvers! It is WONDERFUL to be able to see your sights again!!

Talley ho on this bit of advice! I really appreciate being able to accurately use my laser bore sight tool, and having the barrel axis and sight axis perfectly aligned. I use the tool and I usually don't have to make any final adjustments on the range. If you don't get the mount drilled and tapped correctly you can complicate your sighting in process.

Just a minor point...

B Square makes a mount for the older S&W's that mount in place of the rear sight with one screw plus one in the "T" elevation slot. I'm not sure how strong it is for use on a .357.
