Trigger won't return
I have a pre-25 and the trigger won't return after firing. It sticks towards the back of the trigger guard and I have to physically return to to its proper position. What's the problem?

Could be several different things. Collapsed or overly-shortened rebound slide spring, crud gumming up the rebound slide or other internals, broken rebound slide spring stud, or other causes. Can you tell if it has ANY spring pressure helping push it forward? How heavy is the DA pull? Does it feel like it needs cleaning or lube when you pull the trigger DA or cock the hammer? Have you popped the sideplate and looked inside? We need to know more.

Well, I popped the sideplate (love those 5 screws). Man oh man, I'm looking at 50 years of powder residue and oil in there. Rather than mess with this myself, there's a gunsmith in Manassas I'll take it to for a good cleaning and diagnosis of the problem. He's a former AMU smith, so hopefully he knows something about S&W revolvers.
