guys, i have a 617 that must be nearly 20 years old. i'd like to replace the 6 shot cylinder for a 10. don't know where to begin to get this done or even if it can be done. don't know if it worth doing (money wise). anybody else tried this.
You send it into S&W and let them do it correctly. My 6-shot cylinder shot so badly they didn't even charge me to covert the pistol to 10-shot. The new cylinder shoots like a million bucks now, I am here to tell you !!
Your 6 shot 617 is worth more than the newer 10 shot guns, especially if it is a 4" gun. I'll bet if you post it here, it will be gone in no time, then buy the 10 shot you want. You will be money ahead in the long run.
