Default Re-boring a barrel, who does it?

I have an old 3.5" pre-27 barrel that I would like to have re-bored to .44 caliber. Anyone know who does this kind of work? Also would like to have the right side re-stamped ".44 Special" in a font similar to S&W factory. Thank you.

Contact Jim Dubell at Delta Gun Shop / Clearwater Reboring. Jim is Cliff LaBounty's successor in the barrel reboring business. Jim was trained by Cliff prior to to his retirement, he does Hamilton Bowen's reboring work. I own two .44 Special conversions, one done by Cliff and the other by Mr. Dubell both shoot better than I can hold them. I can recommend Delta Gun Shop's work without reservation.

Hamilton Bowen recommended Cliff Labounty to me for a .41 Colt re-bore. The work was excellent. Wanted other work done after he sold the business to Dubell and took his recommendation. Strongly recommend Delta Gun Shop too.

Thank you all for your recommendations. I already have a 24-3 cylinder, so won't need a rebore on that.

I have a number of LaBounty rifle rebores so you cannot go wrong with Jim Dubell. That said I had Al Siegrist rebore an old Ruger Flattop 357 Mag barrel to 38 WCF and he did a fine job and the gun is very accurate. Cost was ~$120 4 years ago with delivery of ~4 months.

Had DuBell do a 38HD barrel to 44sp for me at Hamilton Bowens prompting. Very nice work. Hamilton did the rechamber job for me.

Price then (2yrs ago) was $100 w/o recrowning. Turn around was 6 mo, though it was promised in 6 to 8 wks. The wait was no problem for me at the time as it was not a customers gun.
I think I read he adv. at least a 6mo wait on rebore work now & the price is a bit higher.

Just as sharp as Cliff's work. He taught him well.

I've never used High Plains Reboreing but have had a few folks give him high praise for his work.

The caliber marking change done on the side of the barrel of the conversions is usually part of the 'package' that custom 'smiths perform when doing the entire conversion in their shop.

You could try emailing Hamilton Bowen or Dave Clements, both of which do such work and see if they'll do the work on a gun not completed by them. (I believe Dave Clements has Dubell do his rebore work also)

I don't know if Jim DuBell will do it on revolver barrels or not as it's only a rebore but it's worth it to ask. He remarks rifle barrels when rebored & rechambered.

I have a steel stamp to remark .44 Special rebores, it is made from the markings on a S&W 1950 Target. I will loan it to anyone doing a .44 Special conversion. E-mail me at: [email protected].

I can't seem to find a replacement barrel for my s&w 4506-1 (.45 semi-auto). I assume this is my only option "re-bore & re-rifle"?

I believe Clearwater re-boring is gone and not sure who does it now. When Clearwater was doing work, he was a year behind on his work. Would be interesting to see if anyone does it now. Had a K-22 made into a .32 long by Andy Horvath, it shoots great. Clearwater did the re-boring on it. If a young machinist would be able to do this kind of work and do it right, he would be making good money. Larry
