Default Anyone ever reline a K22 barrel?

I have a 5 screw K22 barrel that I would like to get relined.

I heard from Alex Hamilton of Ten Ring Precision that he won't reline revolver barrels. He said the impact of the bullet hitting the forcing cone of the barrel will move the reline.

Randy Redman of Redman Barrel Relining will do it but he only wants the barrel not the gun. I'm trying to decide if it's worth having the barrel removed and sent to Redman's.

I would like to hear from someone who has had a K22 barrel relined.

Thanks, help me put this old gal back into good shooting condition.

1911;

First, I am not contradicting my old friend Alex.. I've been doing them with out any problems..(yet.) But, I do not use forcing cones...they are archaic and deform the projectile before it's confined within the barrel, so Alex is exactly correct. A great deal of pressure is generated by the bullet attempting to over come the forcing cone angle.. The Taylor Throat allows the bullet to completely enter the barrel freely by one and a half times the bullet length, and engage a gentle 1-1/2 degree rifling leade with minimal pressure. Taylor throating is the way to go. Revolvers pose another problem. The bore must be very carefully centered within the threaded tenon.. the setup is critical. I single point bore a .300 ID X .375 deep guide hole into the barrel to make sure the drill is guided and supported as it enters the bore. Otherwise it may tend to leade off center. Revolvers are much tougher to do than autos...and special fixtures are a must. Alex uses Walther liners, and he has converted me to them.. They are definately "THE" liner to use...8 lands and grooves of precision machining..beautiful workmanship..especially if you are looking for extreme accuracy...

Good luck with your project..

Jerry

You don't say why you want relining done to this gun? Personally, I've never seen a K22 that needs this done but, don't know your circumstances. My thoughts are with every passing lead bullet, the bore gets smoother(kind of a lapping effect).
