Here's a real newbe/greenhorn question: I would like to remove the knurled cylinder thumb release lever on a 38 year old collector M19-2 so that I can better clean up and wax that part of the frame. What will happen if I remove the screw holding the cylinder thumb release? Will I be able to reassemble the part easily once I remove it? I have no experience with removing things from revolvers so I don't want to create a situation I can't recover from. Thanks in advance for your help.
No problem, nothing will fall into the gun if that's what you are worrying about. Make sure to use a good fitting screwdriver so you don't mar the screw...
This one is pretty easy, but it's always good to ask. Just remove the screw and it will come right off... The latch just sits over nub that actuates the mechanism; nothing flys out, or gets displaced... The side plate is another matter, I would not try that one without some instruction.
When you remove the latch, just be sure to use a hollow-ground screwdriver that fits the screw properly, so you don't 'bugger' the screw.
