I am having extraction problems with my 39-2, (have had it for 25 yrs...a police trade in).
The second or third brass, from rounds left in magazine, fails to fully extract, and is left 3/4 out of the chamber resulting in a jam.

I have removed and cleaned the extractor and extractor channel, tried a different magazine and eliminated limp wristing. Pistol is clean and lubed.

I guess at this point, I am looking for suggestions before I start thowing parts at it. In the time that I have had it, I have not replaced any parts.

This was a common problem with early 39-2s. The standard fix was replacement of the extractor and spring with the "improved" version. Check with S&W to see if they have the proper replacement as the 39-2 may be obsolete as far as parts availability.

I'm assuming you already checked the chamber for flaws and tried different ammo. Eliminate the variables before replacing parts.

Could be as simple as a new extractor spring. MY original 5906 I bought in 1989 started to give me extractor bounce, which induced an in-line stovepipe type stoppage, after like 25,000 rounds through the gun.
Call to S&W, new extractor spring in the mail, problem solved.

If it needs a new extractor it will have to be fitted (or send it back to S&W), which means you need to find someone with the gauges to do so, I still have my set, but around here I'm the only guy I know that does.

The extractor is available but a restricted part. I'm going to replace the extractor spring and see what happens.
