Default Chrome/nickle plating?

Hello. I am considering buying a police trade in gun. Becasue they are always worn out, I want to know where I could get it chrome/ nickle plated, and if this would cover any nicks and scratches etc.
So where did you get yours done, and about how much was it. Was it good quality?

Ford's Gun Refinishing has a very good reputation. I've never had one done but have read about them. They have a web site where you can see pictures of their work and I think it gives the prices. S&W might also do it.

These firms can plate your pistol with either hard chrome or nickle.
Metaloy, Industries - Professional Gun Finishing - hard chrome, blue and polymer finish
Hard Chrome Plating & Electroless Nickel Plating, Armalloy & Gun Bluing by Mahovsky's Metalife

Plating covers nothing. if you want the scratches removed, it has to be done before plating.

You can also send it back to Smith & Wesson to have the refinishing done by the factory.
