I'm getting more and more misfires from a Model 64 I have. The firing pin/hammer nose doesn't look right to me but it still fires most of the time.
Is this my problem?
If so, where can I pick up a pre-88 hammer nose and rivet?
Thanks!
I appreciate the help a great deal!
It looks chewed up on the bottom. Take a file and remove the burrs. I think it's still usable. I'd try tightening the strain screw as it might have backed off causing the main spring to loose it's tension. In time you can replace the firing pin.
The picture isn't too good. The tip of the firing pin is angled back, not round like the top of a ball. The firing pin is chewed up indeed, on the bottom and the tip. As far as the strain screw, I have replaced the mainspring with a new S&W spring. The strain screw is bottomed out.
Thanks for your response.
ETA S&W discontinued all Pre88 floating hammer noses according to Brownells.
