We purchased a 2nd issue .32 S&W Safety Hammerless recently. It looked to be in pretty good condition (cylinder and latch were tight and the bore looked good. No real rust, just some light wear and rub off of the blue.
We fired about 20 rounds of new factory ammo (10 Rem. and 10 Winchester) about a week ago. Everything seemed to work OK (but we had to laugh at our inability to hit the paper plate target - even at 7 yds. Still had much fun).
Well we took it out again today and before using it, I noticed what I'll call a 2nd (or partial double) cyl. turn ring that wasn't there when we bought it. This extends around just about half way around the cylinder. It almost looks like the cylinder shifted backwards and cut a new turn ring. I'd say it is about 1/16 away from the original turn ring. The pawl seems to be matching up now correctly in the center of the cylinder notches, but something was amiss at some point! Anyone seen anything like this before? What causes this? What needs to be done? Thanks for any help.
PS: I'll study up on how to post a photo here and maybe get one on this thread to show you exactly what I'm talking about.
