Default .32 S&W Long Target Revolver

For a long time I have wanted a Target revolver in .32 S&W Long. Other than dropping $4000 on a real model 16 I would like to come up with a viable conversion idea. My best idea is to start with a model 14, get a model 17 cylinder and bore it out to .32. Install a light weight custom barrel in .32. I would give it a Bomar Rib if I could find one, but I could use the original sights with a custom front sight. I wish there was some good way to sleeve the .38 cylinder but I doubt it would work. This is sort of pie in the sky, but if you have any good ideas chime in!

Dwight

Hello, I had the same idea, something with less pop to teach younger shooters between .22 and .38. I ended up buying a md 16 cylinder in 32 mag, (there's one on auction on Gunbroker right now), and finally found a 8 3/8" full lug barrel. All this in going on a Md 15 frame later this spring. Hope this helps.

I wonder if the .38 calibre cylinder could be sleeved that would leave me with an ejector star that was the wrong size.

There is a guy on the BulseyeL list that makes custom fast twist barrels for .32 Pardini and Walther autos. The standard twist rate does not work well at 50 yards.

Thumbs up

I wanted a .32 long cartridge revolver in a target configuration as well & bought this sweet Taurus a few yrs back & it's the next best thing to the S&W. (model 14-4 on left)

I has all the same features, at less cost.....I believe it is a model 76. They were known to also be chambered in .32 H&R magnum later in this models production.
It would be another thought for you to consider in a fantastic target type revolver.
I wouldn't part with mine, it is a fine, accurate shooter.

Sorry, this is not a "Smithing" fix,....but it is an alternative!
