Default Pearl revolver grips

I have purchased an old set of k-frame pearl grips and the need a slight amount of material removed at the top of the grip to fit an S-frame .38.

Pearl is rather fragile and i don't want to damage these nice old grips. Any suggestions as how to sand, or how not to sand, the edge of the grips. Material needs to be removed on the rounded top portion of the grips. They are like the prewar service grip in size.

Thank you in advance for your help.

Shell inlay artists use Diamond Needle Files to smooth out the rough edges that remain after cutting with a jeweler's saw. They work great for removing a .001 here and there. They are not expensive.
