Tuning a 1911 EJector? Any 1911 experts?
I installed a new (extended) ejector on my DW Pointman as the old one was loose and seemed to be worn. I tightened the old one by removing it and peening the front post so the roll pin fit snug. This helped but the rear post still sat up a little. The brass still ejected.
Anyway, the new one is in and nice and tight. The front tip of the ejector is longer than the original. Do I just leave it as is and see how it works? Is there any relation between the length of the ejector and how far the spent brass fly?
I fed several empty cases through the gun and they eject manually.
I can post a pic if that helps.
Thanks!

The longer ejector may prevent loaded rounds from being ejected. (I know, why would anyone want to eject a loaded round)
The length and angle of the ejector can be changed in an attempt to get the brass to land where you weant it.
Try to not have a really sharp pointed corner on it when you're done, just on the off chance that a round comes back a 'lil bit crooked and the ejector fires it off. (usually only an issue with a 40)

There are times in clearing the weapon that a live round might need to be ejected.
Right now the ejector is just squared at the end so should I file the corners? I really do not know what shape or length to make it. I know how to do it, and have the tools, just not having a example to see what it should look like.

You need to check out the 1911 Forum..
There's so much info on that site about 1911s that it will take you a long time to read up on just ejectors..

If you feel you must start filing on your new ejector, I strongly suggest you copy the angle from the top of the stock ejector and don't bring the angle to a sharp point. You'll note the stock ejector has a slight flat at the point of contact with the cartridge head. Shortening the ejector to make sure that loaded rounds will eject cleanly may be necessary.
The important issue here is to get the ejectors point of contact with the casehead to be below the centerline of the case so that the case goes up and out. There used to be a famous name maker of these things that seemed to have failed to recognize that minor detail. The tip of his ejectors sloped the wrong way, driving the ejected empty into the side of the slide instead of out the port.

I checked the 1911 forum FAQ and there is everything except Ejectors.
I can duplicate the angle/length of my old one but am afraid it is worn down and may actually have been a regular length and not a extended.

Brass doesn't wear steel down very fast. I doubt it could be worn all that much.

My original may have been a standard length and not extended.
I found this site with a nice photo, so I made mine look like it. I will test fire it tomorrow.
Click on tips/tricks and then ejection perfection. Scroll down to the photo.

I have a long ejector in my Gold Cup, and I have fired thousands of rounds over the past 25 or so years through it. Still as good today as it was when it was put in. The longer the ejector the more to the rear and further out the brass will be ejected. I had the longer ejector in the Gold Cup as I shoot light target loads and wanted reliable ejection.
