Default 442 Finish- Removing Paint & Repairing A Ding

Picked up my first Smith yesterday - I am a slow starter
Its a 442 with the spent cartridge envelope indicating a date 5/28/2009. I have been looking for a 442 with no internal lock and my local gun/pawn store had one that just came off pawn. Lightly used and seldom shot. Excellent price.

The only issue is the former owner painted a few uneven orange dabs of paint on either side of the rear sight along with putting a small ding exposing the metal on the rib along the front of the barrel. Not bad but I want to take care of this.

I am unsure of the 442 finish and have two questions -

1. What do you recommend to remove the orange paint without removing any of the black finish?

2. Any type of black touch up that I can use to cover up and treat the exposed metal?

Appreciate the coaching and glad to be on board!

I would first try alcohol on the orange paint, Then hoppes #9 & then acetone..
The acetone I'm sure will remove the 442-1s finish go easy with a q-tip
There are several black touch up products at most gun stores like sight black etc.. You could also try a black marker..
Enjoy!!
