Default S&W says 12 Weeks????

I am not in a huge hurry...but that sounds like a long time.

I am having my 28 re-blued...wanted S&W to do it...I called today...their work is good and its a "Factory polish & blue" so...

But when he said 12 weeks...I have sent 2 other guns for re-finish and it was less than 4 week turnaround...the last one, although it was 2 years ago, they had the gun back to me in less than 3 weeks...

So my question is how long has it taken some of you to get a polish and blue from S&W?

As I said I am still not in a hurry, so I am going to have S&W do it...but was wondering if they are just padding it so I don't bother them every week asking wheres my gun?

I think the best answer to your questions -- and this holds true with all sorts of other companies, too -- is, "It'll take as long as it takes."

Not just any old shop hand can do a S&W-level refinishing job and, especially these days, companies don't keep a huge number of these highly-skilled people on the payroll. Some seasons will be busier than others and work priorities might be reassigned. And don't forget we are in the main vacation season -- one vacation might account for a 2 to 4 week delay, right there -- and it could just be whatever lady that books the work who's on vacation!

As a customer I can certainly hope that any company I deal with can give me right-now, pronto service at all times; but unfortunately, for economic and other reasons, such companies are harder to come by these days. Of course, there weren't all that many back in the "good old days" -- after all, there's a reason the good ones stand out!

Your gun will be at the factory during the summer vacation shutdown. You'll still probably see it sooner than the 3 months quoted. Send it off and forget about it. It'll be a neat surprise when it arrives.

Having had work done with them before, I expected to hear "6 to 8 weeks" but i hadn't thought about vacation time...Its in the box and will go out tomorrow...then I will shoot the 19 till the 28 is returned to me...then....well i will shoot them both..thanks for the reminder of vacation time. I would never want to rush them...they do great work and that takes time...better good than fast in this case.

I'll post good pics when I get it back and the grips back from DWFAN...its all good...like a new old gun

But you also get a coupon for a Shampoo and Set.

Summer shut down, re tooling and cleanup.

I sent in my 629 right after "the great one" was elected for an action job and sdm front sight and it took about 11 weeks, yes thats a long time to wait but it will be worth it I'm sure you have other toys to play with in the mean time, good luck and be patient.
