15-3 push off, I NEED HELP!
I have 15-3 snubbie with a serious push off problem. At full cock, the slightest touch of the hammer sends it home. I tried the FAQ repair, no luck. I think the hammer/trigger have been damaged beyond repair. I have looked at the Numrich web site and found a hammer and trigger for a 15-4. Are 15-3 and 15-4 hammers and triggers interchangable?
Hammers come in .375 and .265 sizes, trigger assemblies in .265, .312 and .400 Which one to replace mine?
Any help would be greatly appreciated. I cannot accept my new to me 15-3 being a double action only.

I had the same problem with my 29-3. I sent it back to Smith. I would advise you to do the same.

I can tell you how to fix push off if you are familiar with working on your gun. Send me a PM

without 'seeing' it, my guess is the hammer notch can be 'recut' (deepened)unless the trigger 'tip' (nose) is chipped or broken off.......have you had a GOOD 'smith take a look at it???

The trigger tip appears to have been rounded, but not broken off. The hammer notch looks pretty square. I took a look with a magnifying glass, but I am willing to do a litle filing to attempt to fix it.

Filing is too much. Use a stone.

Your piece must be removed from service immediately. This is a HUGE liability issue. In the long run, you would be much better served by sending the piece back to the manufacturer for repair. It's a much more legally defensible position.

You've gone past the surface hardness on the trigger where it meets the hammer. It's soft now and can't be repaired.
You need a new trigger.
Don't ask me how I know!
I'll never use a hard, fine ceramic stone on a sear engagement again for more than two strokes.

Thanks to a lot of HBO (Help a Brother Out) from ken158, my push off is GONE!
I now have a 4 lb trigger with no push off.

You can buy Casenit from Brownell's, and re-case harden the tip of the trigger or the hammer notch. It works and is easy. Just follow the instructions that come with the product.

It wouldn't do any good if too much metal had been removed or the edges rounded out.
But you made a very valid suggestion. I'm going to get some Casenite in case I might need it.
