Default Wondering Zero

I have a S&W 629-1 4". I take it out, sight it in and then next time out the POI has changed. this has happened several times. The sight screw is tight and has thread locker on it. Should I look for a replacement rear sight? where would I find one?
Thanks

Assuming you're using equivalent ammo at all times and the rear sight isn't moving around, The first thing I would look at is operator error. If you've used loctite on the screws, I doubt that the rear sight is moving.

Are you having this issue with any other guns?

You can always have another shooter try and replicate the problem.

I only have the problem on this gun. Yes I have had another shooter shoot to the same POI.

If you're positive, replace or rebuild rear sight. Parts are available from Brownells or Smith & Wesson.

How far does the POI move, and at what distance. Are you shooting DA or SA? Are you using the same ammo each time?

Your grip is changing. Same ammo, same grip, same sight picture, then see if you still have the poi shift. Shoot it off a ransom rest....

Well I can think of a few things that would cause inconsistent POI's........

1) using inconsistent ammunition or different (mixed bags) of ammo
2) constantly changing grip on gun
3) loose barrel ( I have experienced this myself )
4) cylinder not aligning properly (shaving of bullets)
5) improper breathing
6) pulling trigger instead of "squeezing" it
7) barrel not sized correctly (unlikely, but worth checking)
8) sight too loose or sight adjustment screw has a bad thread
9) just a "bad day at the range"

IF you are consistently shooting to the same POI after readjusting the sights FOR THE ENTIRE RANGE SESSION, then I would suspect that the problem lies with your shooting technique, unless you have liberal anti gun Gremlins inside your gun safe. (LOL) Seriously, to eliminate all possibilities, check out all the mechanical things I listed above, and if they are all OK, then pay particular attention to your shooting techniques.

There is one other thinkg I should mention here that actually just happened to me:
I recently got a new pair of shooting glasses because my prescription has changed. Apparently I have developed an astigmatism which has been corrected by the new glasses. Now, because of this correction in the lenses, all my rear adjustable sights had to be moved over to the right. That said, as long as I wear that pair of spec's. my groups are consistent & tight. I don't know if this would apply to you, but I thught I should mention itr since I just went through this experience myself.

Let us know what you narrow it down to.

Regards,
chief38
