Default Frame Wrench

Can anyone supply a detailed pic of an MGW frame wrench head without the insert installed showing construction details. Brownell's website has a pretty shot of the wrench fully assembled but I'd like to see how the large handscrew tightens against the delrin insert. Even a detailed written description would help to know if the handscrew tightens directly on the insert or if there is a steel plate distributing the load.

I'm a machinist and am only thinking of duplicating it for my self using the store-bought inserts.

Thanks,

Dan T.

Dan;
It tightens directly on the insert. I've used mine almost daily at times, for many years, with no ill effects to the inserts. I've had a number of contraptions, this one is the best I've used..

I thought the "store bought" handle to be a bit pricey, I made mine out of red oak a couple of carriage bolts and wing nuts. Total cost about $5.00, works like a charm.

Thanks to you both. I plan to machine the head from 6061 aluminum and make the handle and interconnecting plate at the bottom from steel, as I think the original is made. It is the greatest help knowing that the hand screw tightens on the insert directly with no ill effects and that it works well that way. There is no reason to re-engineer something that works well. Thanks again for the replies.

If your wrench were to be used a lot, I would use a nylon tipped set screw. That way the insert would not get chewed up from repeated contact with the end of a steel screw.
