Default X Frame Front Sight Change

I tried to find info on "how to" change the sight. I've checked S&W, this forum, and general google. I've checked SDM also, the maker of the sight I want to use.

This X Frame has the standard compensator on the 8 3/8 barrel. I want to exchange for the fiber optic sight. I don't see any cross pin on the sight base.

How do I change from blade to FO front sight on this powerful revolver?

The gun use 2 different front blade styles.

This type requires you to remove the pin, then lift up the blade.

If you don't have this type you have the spring loaded one. All you do is press the front sight to the rear, then lift up on the front end. It can be easily removed and swapped for another one.
I don't have a picture, but I do of the blades they take.

Thank you!

If I were to load a slower cartridge, would it be better to get the 0.300 high blade or stick with the 0.250 standard height?

I am thinking of loading some at about 1000 fps.

If you shoot 350gn bullets then switch to a heavier say 400gn bullet, then it needs the taller front post. I never ran slow stuff in mine, so I wouldn't order a blade until you are sure of your POI.

One thing for sure, this gun when messing around with different loads, you need to swap out your front blade. The gun will drive you nuts if you like to go back and forth with light to heavy loads...
