If you are referring to an older M36 chief special I would procure a replacement hammer and cut that one instead of cutting the original. Once you cut it there's no going back. You might try Gun Parts (Numrich Arms - West Hurley, NY), Brownells, Jack First, or a few of the other parts guys.
If this is an MIM part, sorry I don't have much info on those as I do not own any MIM guns.
