Default Model Marked 4 Screw Model 53, 8-3/8" barrel

I was trying to evaluate the Mod. 53 today for the possibility of purchase and during my attempt to rotate the firing pin from rim fire to center fire, the hammer fell with out my pulling the trigger, indicating "push off' and I let this prevent me from making the purchase. I'm not sure but I sense that the Hammer, if it has to be replaced, will be hard to find and expensive to boot. Also, the revolver was all there is, no inserts, no box, no paperwork or cleaning equipment nor the sight adjustment tool. My question is two fold, am I correct in my assessment of an expensive and hard to find Hammer? And is a price of less than $900.00 in the ballpark range for a revolver as described? If this is not the proper section in which this should be posted I will appreciate it being repositioned under the correct Topic.

There's a stripped hammer on GB for $30.

You would probably get more response in the '61-80 Revolver section. Just looking at past auctions on GB the $900 seems too high, especially without the inserts.

Default Mod. 53

Sure do appreciate your replies as I have decided that the revolver in not something I will add to the list of acquired revolvers. The owner was into the gun too much for any more negotiations and not knowing what expense would be involved in locating a new hammer the deal is no longer stewing. It surely is great that there are so many knowledgeable people here willing to offer their opinions and expert advice. Thanks again and Happy New Year!!!!
