Default 22a Stuck Breakdown Button

After about 75-100 rounds, I cleaned my 22a for the first time. Sw 22a has a breakdown button in front of the trigger guard. Press the button and it releases the barrel to lift off easily, etc.

Problem: I was breaking it down again and as i started to lift the barrel, I accidentally let the breakdown button pop back and now the button cannot be pressed in. Needless to say I am really p*ssed. Everything appears to be alligned ok. Anyone experience this? How was it resolved?

Thanks all.

On several occasions the button on mine has gotten to the point where it didn't want to push in, I always just stick the button right on the edge of my bench and push straight down as much as it takes to break the button loose, sometimes that is quite a bit.

I am not going to say it will work for you or won't break the gun but that is what I have done without any problem and my thinking has always been if it breaks I will just send it back to Smith and Wesson.

I did the same thing when I got mine last year. I sprayed it down with oil grabbed the front while pressing the button, then grabbed the back and pushed, pulled, twisted it came apart fairly easily with no issues.

Thanks for the info on this. I gave it a drop of oil and put the button on the edge of my workbench, It didn;t take a lot of downward pressure till it pressed in. Go to go here. Thanks guys.
