Extractor rod
Hey, Fellas!
Where can I buy a left hand thread extractor rod for a 6" Mod. 28, #S2076XX. I checked both Midway and Brownells? Neither have it? That should read "right hand thread" extractor rod!

You can try S&W or Gun Parts (Numrich arms). You can also try Jack First in South Dakota or Bob's Gun Shop. If these sources don't pan out, then I guess you will have to start searching the internet. From time to time I do see most parts (minus the frames) for sale.
Getting parts for older Smiths ("real Smiths") is getting harder every day!
Good luck on your quest.

Left hand thread is the current ejector rod. S&W should most certainly be able to help you.

Thanks Chief38 and TennExplorer!
I'll have to try Smith and Jack First Monday. Didn't look available from Bob's? Numrich is confusing. Their page on the 28 no dash states it requires a right hand thread? Mine is definitely a left hander! This makes me wonder if someone has changed the complete extractor assembly for an older one?

ejector rod
Hi Reddog, it doe's sound like the ejector has been changed. A left hand ejector rod from a 25, 27, 28, and 29 will fit. Should be easy to find.

Brownells has them in stock for $8.99? Not sure how you were searching, but I always use the schematic to find my parts.

Jepp,
Is that right hand or left hand thread? I ordered one from Midway and it was right hand. I need left.

Dick,
No way to tell for sure. I just got one yesterday for my M66 no dash, and it was left hand (of course it was SS). Just what I needed.

Dick, If you keep looking for a model 28-0 it's going to come RH. If search for 28-2 it will come LH, and depending on why you need it you may also need the center pin. -good luck with that

J, When the 28-0 was in production the RH was the standard. Years or decades later when the SS 66's began production LH was the standard.

Thanks srgvaz!
On Numrich they show one part # for the 28 and specify it as RH. They show a different # for the 28-3 and don't specify direction. They don't list a 28-1 or -2. I'll bet the 28-3 # is left hand.

Today, I discovered that it doesn't pay to work on more than one gun at once! The ejector rod on the N2076XX is a right hand thread, not a left hand thread as I said before. (Apologies to everyone who tried to correct me!) Would anyone have one on hand that I could buy from them? The old one I have measures 2.883" right hand. Need one that's straight! PM or e-mail me, please!

IT happens, you should place an ad in the WTB section. Several members carry/sell parts and they do cruise that section. I was reading somewhere that you can rethread and convert it to LH, and IIRC there's a member here that does it. A short search might help you out.

Thanks, srgvaz!
I'll repost over there. I'll look for the re-threading, too!
