Default 629 floating hand

Hello-I have a 629-2 with a horrible DA pull. The culprit, the floating hand. So I ordered a hand for a 629-3, shortened the pin, checked the fit, and now I have a few questions. First, the new hand does not have a cylinder latch stud. Do I need this? Second, the floating hand had a shoulderd bushing on the pin it rode against, but the new hand makes no contact with the side of the trigger-it sits @.032 away. Is this normal? All my other smiths have floating hands so no help there. I told the wife I had to buy a used pistol to fix the one I have torn apart, so here I am asking for help? Thanks

I cannot really answer your question. I replace all my floating hands with current production hands or like you 629-3 hands. They seem to fit and work, so I dont worry about it. The last one I put in was a 25-7.

You don't need the stud. Also, you shouldn't have to cut anything. Just remove the old hand from the trigger, then put in the replacement.

Call S&W, they have the proper hands. The power custom hands are hit or miss with me.

From what I understand, the longer pin was to fit into a bolt block that was part of the endurance package that I don't have. Why did they drop the bolt catch on the hand?
Thanks

They look to simplify manufacturing, I guess.

That floating hand was an attempt to improve the carry up between right or left handed shooters. It failed and was replaced with the old design within a year or two.

Floating hand on the right, standard hand on the left
