Default 3rd. Gen. parts interchangeability

I have a 3rd. gen 4566 that I want to replace the black trigger and hammer with a stainless trigger and stainless bobbed hammer like the 4516, for example, and a single-sided safety. I have seen some of the gen. 3's with the stainless parts and I would like to ascertain which various model's parts would allow me to accomplish this so I can go on the hunt for them. Is it possible that all gen. 3 triggers, hammers, safeties etc. are interchangeable? Thanks.

I believe the triggers are the same but the hammers/safeties are common to the large frame 10/45 guns. I don't recall any single sided safeties for the large frame guns though.

You might try over in the semi-auto forum. These kinds of questions come to this forum to die.

Within the 2nd and 3rd generation traditional D/A autos with slide mounted safetys, hammers and triggers interchange regardless of frame size or caliber. However, there are two lengths of hammer struts but if you buy a hammer with the wrong length strut you can reuse your original strut. Second generation hammers have a half cock notch that was eliminated in 3rd gen. hammers because its safety function was redundant to the slide's firing pin blocking safety plunger and the sear dragging across the half cock notch could be felt during the DA pull. The silver colored hammers and triggers were flash crome plated non-stainless parts. There are two sizes of safety assemblies: 9mm/.40 and .45/10mm. 745s used huge single sided safety paddles. All other 2nd & 3rd gen. single sided safetys may be after market parts, but I'm not sure.

Hi WLB,
I know this is an old thread, but I am in the same situation you were, only many years later, and would like to know how you resolved your quandary! Did you ever get your SS controls for the 4566? Mine is a TSW and I just cannot get used to seeing the black controls on the SS body. Any suggestions for interchangeability for these parts (slide-stop, trigger & ambi safety/decocker)would be very much appreciated!!!
Thanks
Mike
